It’s Like No Other Vitamin…
Unlike other vitamins that can only be consumed in foods, Vitamin D can be synthesized by the body via sunlight.
The UVB radiation from sunlight enters the body via the skin and converts something called ‘7-dehydrocholesterol’ into prev-vitamin D, which is then quickly converted into vitamin D3.
The vitamin D3 is then metabolized in the liver into ’25-hydroxyvitamin D’ (25(OH)D3), which is then metabolized in the kidneys into the active form ‘1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D’. The active form of vitamin D is actually a hormone, known as ‘calcitriol’.
